November 2008 update…

Hello there,  21 years on and Ross & I revisited Tenerife – for those of you in the know this was where we were introduced to La Bombas at the top of Mount Teide – Couldn’t get him to brave the cable car this time though  - must be losing my touch, c’est la vie! We had a great time but couldn’t recognise any of it from before though we weren’t accosted by a tiger in the street for a photo opportunity, no this time it was Parrots for Rikki and his girlfriend Lynsey, and the photos were great despite much ribbing from Aaron and his girlfriend Emily that they’d been done and they wouldn’t show up!

March 2008 update…

Hello there, it’s Easter Saturday as I’m writing this in advance for a change and it’s been snowing with more forecast for tonight. Well we’ll see, as the Hurricane certainly never arrived thank goodness! Had a great meal with an old friend last night caught up on all the news put the world to rights as you do and although I’m suffering today it’s due to this awful cold which has sent me deaf in one ear temporarily I hope and not to the amount of alcohol consumed - honest!

November 2007 update…

Hello there, remember, remember the 5th of November, bonfire night the stars are bright two little angels dressed in white or at least it went something like that which caused great hilarity when I was singing it to my friends and no I won’t do a rendition now! Well that was yesterday and I really must buy a Poppy as sadly no one has brought us any to sell this year – I wonder why…

May 2007 update…

Hello there, yes it’s me again and I know from what you tell me that you love reading this so read on and I hope you’ll be entertained! Summer was here when we put this menu together with some lovely salads for you, just hoping it will return now and that the glorious few days we had wasn’t it!

November 2006 update…

Hello there, December 1st, well where did November go, it would have been my Nana’s birthday today, and she swore by a sherry every lunchtime and a whisky every night, only ever the one though and she lived to a grand old age. Maybe Ross & I should try it! We hope you’ll like the new dishes on our menu, particularly the “Havercakes” which are on as a starter and will appear on the Specials Desserts board. We discovered these when Timothy Taylor’s asked us to provide food for their stand at the Yorkshire Beer & Food Festival.

May 2006 update…

Hello there, never cast a clout till May is out, was a saying I was brought up with and though we’ve had some lovely weather, I didn’t quite reach for the shorts (to wear or to drink) and as I write this it’s like April showers or a May deluge! We were delighted recently to be mentioned THREE times in the newly published Good Pub Food Guide by Susan Nowak & Jill Adam on behalf of CAMRA.

October 2005 update…

Hi, hurrah I hear you say this update is well overdue and as I’m writing this I can see on the Calendar that October starts on Saturday – ok so what have I been doing? Well we’ve taken on another Pub with Timothy Taylor’s – namely the White Horse over in Thornton – and no we’re not leaving here I hope you’ll be pleased to know.

October 2004 update…

Hi,  well it’s six months since my last note here – doesn’t time fly when you’re enjoying yourself. Half term at the moment and time to introduce our new dishes for the winter, to think about lighting the fires, toasting our toes and Christmas – though I’m not going to count the shopping days left the children are already telling us what they would like. I think it’s a sign of getting older that Christmas seems to get earlier though I still love it and this will be our third festive season spent here. Mental note - Maybe I should give Ross a list of what I want so he can think about it before Christmas Eve – bet you know what I mean don’t you?

May 2004 update…

Hi, Ross & I took over in April 2002 – well no, to be fair, Ross took over and because the children were still at school in Nottingham, we all descended at weekends for the five weeks prior to closing.

Alterations took place for 11 weeks and we re-opened on Thursday July 25th – but of course you know all of that. During our 2 years here, we are delighted to see so many of you returning, which hopefully means that you enjoy being here as much as we do.
