A home from home, a shelter on your historic journey of Lancashire or simply a pub with good food in Yorkshire that is extremely popular with the locals, the Dog and Gun Inn, Malsis is Keighley’s hidden gem.
The owner, also a fully qualified chef has personally devised his scrumptious Yorkshire menu with quality local ingredients and flavoured it with his heart-felt passion for cooking dishes that are not only family favourites but mouth-wateringly more ‘ish’.
Based on Colne Road in Malsis, The Dog and Gun Inn is a few miles from the town of Keighley at the mouth of Worth Valley adjacent to the stunning Yorkshire moorland countryside.
Keighley has a long history; in 1801 the population of the town was a mere 5,745, however, due to the rise in manufacturing, cotton and textiles by 1901 the population had multiplied to 42,106.
Towards the end of the 19th century the town of Keighley was the home to 10% of the textile production capacity of England. Prince Smith and Son the Keighley textile works was the biggest in Europe. The meteoric rise in manufacturing occurred in 1795 in two of Keighley’s cottages which saw the birth of a revolution in textile manufacturing when ‘throstles’, small hand turned spinning frames were first created.
This particular area in Yorkshire is not only full of historical wonder but also boasts some stunning scenery and countryside hideaways such as the early 19th century stone cottage that has been lovingly restored to the Dog and Gun Inn, Malsis.
